If you are watching the calendar and the hands of the clock because you’ve expected your baby to be born already, you are most probably interested in on how to start labor. If your baby is less than a week overdue, then doctors will likely advise you to just hang tight. And because the estimated due date is usually truly just an estimate, this is good advice.
However, if you’re already into your 42nd week of pregnancy, and especially if you are facing the risk of being medically induced, then it might be good to learn a little bit about how to start labor.

Medical induction is usually done using Pitocin and Oxytocin administered as gel and via IV drips. Unfortunately, it's very common, that this medical procedure fails to start labor, and leads to Cesarean section. If you're severely overdue, or your doctor wants to induce your labor, here are some tips on how to start labor.
How to Start Labor: Medicinal herbs to start labor
Medicinal herbs are powerful plants, and potentially poisonous. Thus, instead of self-care with potentially toxic herbs, seek the guidance of an experienced herbalist if you want to start your labor with herbs. Some herbalists are specialized in pregnancy care, while other medical practitioners could take a hard line, saying that pregnant women should only use food herbs, not medicinal herbs. Recommending herbs for medicinal usage during pregnancy should be left to qualified herbalists and midwives.
Some of the most well known herbs for inducing labor are Black Cohosh and Blue Cohosh. Evening Primrose Oil and Flax Seed Oil are also used quite often. Also, Castor Oil is very quite effective when it is swallowed - but it has an awful taste and it causes a serious diarrhea. Tastier items like spicy foods and fresh pineapple, kiwi and mango may not work quite as well, but adding them into your diet can be a much nicer way to help start labor.

Acupressure is based on the same medical philosophy as acupuncture. Acupressure involves the application of pressure onto specific, sensitive points along your skin. Acupressure uses fingers and thumbs, as opposed to needles in acupuncture, to stimulate specific acupressure points to start labor.
Giving birth to a baby is such a fragile thing that you will want to ensure the safety of you and your baby. This is why using acupressure to start labor is a favorite technique among pregnant women. Labor acupressure is soothing and has no side effects, when done according to basic instruction. Thus, acupressure is strongly recommendable than medical induction, or the many other "at-home" remedies.

i don't believe in this. I think the baby is only going to come when it's God's will. With out this will there is no chance that the baby would be coming early or later. This is something that he decides, that's it!

God decides. That's funny. I believe doctors decide, not God. Otherwise C-sections would not be possible. Also, drugs such as Pitocin and oxytocin would not induce or speed up labor. I don't care who you are, if you are 42 weeks or more and the baby doesn't come it's not God it's bad luck. Being too far past due is just as dangerous for a baby as being too early.
i think if you are atleast 38wks and want to try and help labor to come on.. then go for it lord knows i am but in the end its your body and the baby that has to be ready
i think of course when the baby is ready but anytime after 38 weeks that i have gone through a long and sometimes hard pregnancy i can try and do safe regiments to help slowly get the baby on his/her way out....its your body, your choice. sex, walking, foods, castor oil...all natural and things you use and do everyday so no harm no fall.

wow...what a christian way to get your opinion about god across...calling people stupid dosent help. Every pregnancy is different. God may/may not have something to due with when you go into labor but that is evryones personal choice to decide what to believe.
I agree, really christian. Every pregnancy is different. If so many people think the baby will come when it is ready then why are you on a site to induce labor. I had sex once after two months, I was 34 weeks and went into labor about one and a half hours afterwards. Wasnt intentional but i do believe there are ways to naturally induce labor.
My baby was over due 3 weeks and because of this had many medical issues and ended up passing away so if you are ovr due the baby needs to come out Gods will or not...

Well i have one week to go and im a firm believer in God and i guess no matter what i do to make this quicker, he will stand beside me through it all. Also, When I was induced with my first child... IT DIDNT WORK!!! they sent me home and she came natural 2 weeks later. Sooooo Maybe God does have something to do with it!! But i can see both points of view!! I'm sooooo excited to meet our baby Stella!!!!!!
so wow people get really angry when it comes to god issue. You know in the bible it says you shouldn't judge people that he will do that when it is time. So for all you people in here judging otheres for the choices they are making just makes you a hypocrite. I believe in God I do but I also believe in modern medicine. wow, ughm, if only a few days overdue then i hear this is normal, if ur more than that and ur doc isnt offering any advice other than just wait, u may want a second opinion. you could risk having a dry birth and a sick baby ... i dont know any real way to induce labor just the old wives tales, but like i said if it is medically necessary to start labor, ull most likely have a c-section.

I believe in God and have been brought up in a christian home, I don't disagree that its up to God to decide but it doesn't mean you shouldn't try and avoid the fact that if you carry your baby past 42 weeks that the chances of it getting sick or worst are so high. You cant expect ppl to have the attitude "or God will decide". And i don't think he'd expect us to do that either it's just iresposible.

What is meant to be will be. Must everything come back to God when everyone has their own opinions and ways of thinking? How about just listing things that worked for you. All i see is judgment and harsh words. Regardless...some peoples bodies do not work right, and they need assistance. Because it is your baby, you do what you can to ensure the proper care/2nd opinion. In the end it comes down to your body, the baby, faith if you believe, and choice. In essence one could say it both with or without god.

Well 2 yrs ago gods will decided to trigger early labour at 21 weeks, unfortunately the stress of the birth was 2 much 4 our daughter nd she died, I am now 35 weeks pregnant nd with the help of doctors putting a cervical suture in have so far succeeded to stay pregnant! Due to the fact I am 4ft 10 & husband is 6ft 1 my baby is huge if I go full term I will need a c-section, part of me is hoping that as baby has has the steroid injections to boost lungs that he does come a little early. God may of had some divine reason y he took our daughter away but I for the life of me can not think of a good enough reason nd there will never b a good enough reason in my eyes.
Pineapples girls, followed by curry and dancing (Jive I think)Topped off with a quick sprint round the block and star junps every 20 paces, then it's off to bed with hubby for a bit of fun stuff and if I'm not holding my daughter in the morning, then I'll start praying!!!
How I got pregnant isnt because of god.its science.i had sex and got pregnant..not god.ive lost my daughter when I was 6 months..im on my 3rd pregnancy..go preech the bible somewhere else.

To all the people talking about god, why are you on a web site giving advise on inducing labour when your getting so defended by it, I am religious, I'm a believer of god but I also believe that all you people should STOP!!!! forcing your religious and belief on other people, when it came to my mother giving birth to be, if it wasn't for a doctor's decision and her turning to induce labour early, I won't be alive now I would have been a still birth, same for my brother. Maybe there's right on both sides, doctors do decide, mothers have induce labour and I bet god has had his way with a few labours too, but please let people have there options and you have yours...... I've tried sex, spicy food, long walks and none of these have worked to induce my labour as of yet, but I am getting strong braxton hickes which I'm hoping is a good sign.... Try Castor oil the flavour-less one, with coca cola or something like that, the texture is a bit like drinking an egg but does work, but only do it pass 40 weeks (or if your extremely uncomfortable) as it CAN (not alway) give you mild diarrhea, and it's not a garentee but it has worked with serveral people I know and I'm going to try it if sex, walking and spicy food doesn't work, (Only 36 weeks at the minute) Hope this helps

Hello all. So I have had four children now. Sometimes all though getting your body stressed is not to great of an idea it can work. taking a light jog, jumping jacks if you can handle them and of the age old making love with your partner. A combination of these things and then a nice relaxing bath and a few hours sleep has got me going every time. I am on number five and am planning to do the same thing again. Hi everyone Im a believer on god but I would say is I think god got something to do with some of the babys coming but not all when people have C-section I dont think dat was god but when people just go into labor I do think its god but with me and my first child I had sex on that monday and tuesday morning I went into labor so some stuff can work to make you go into labor
WOW~ I'm glad I had to read through a bunch of pregnant women bitching about who decides when the baby comes, when really all I wanted was some people opinions of what they've tried and whats worked... Go preach some where else... And like everyone else said, if 'GOD' decides (or if thats how you feel) then what are you doing here other than annoying everyone who here for the reason of the site?
Wow, this is one of the most pointless threads I've ever read! If anyone else has actually managed to read this far fresh pineapple, raspberry leaf tea, sex, walks, bouncing on a birthing ball and spicy food are all meant to work. I've tried all but the tea and no luck yet.
i am going to try the fresh pineapple and the raspberry leaf tea! tried having sex and that has done nothing! walking has done nothing. and spicy food has only given me heart burn! a friend of mine drank the tea, and actually ate fresh raspberries and went into labor that night! so i am going to be buying some raspberries and pineapple tonight! :)
my word, wats with all the god stuff it's actually all about chemical reaction, the baby actually releases a hormone which reacts with other hormones and resulting in labour and if the baby dont release this hormone it results in going overdue which means needing intervention
wow, lots of bitterness on here. i just wanna say i am on my 6th baby and they all have done different things. whether it be God or science or what, I don't care. fact remains that if the baby is high and ur cervix is firm..have sex. spend ur energy there not gripping. i have tried black and blue cohosh and castor oil but sex has natural things in the semen that is used in the hospital. being pregnant is uncomfortable and wearing on ur nerves at the end but usually dr's will induce. mine always have.
in my opinion, i think every pregnancy is different. my first child was born a month early, and right now i am at 41 weeks and still no signs of labor. ive tried nipple stimulation with and without a pump,sex,walking,manual orgasms,fresh pineapple. nothing has worked. im actually scheduled to be induced in 2 days which i really wanted to avoid, so trust me ive tried everything anyone could think of. for me, i believe the baby wont come until its ready, but that might not be the case for everyone.
I had my first child 2 weeks late 10lbs and induced 1cm dilalted for 3mths before i am sorry he was not coming out i had a natural delevery with induced labor!
My 2nd child induced 2 weeks early due to being a big baby also and well 9lbs 2 weeks early!! oh and he was natural not c section!!! I believe inducing labor is great as long as you do not repeat do not get an epidural becuz you cannot move just lay in a bed that will get you to a c-section real quick! also you need a doctor you can trust that is willing to be in the hospital as long as you need and is going to try everything b4 jumping to c-section!!! hope that helps and i will tell you i tried everything 2 weeks late with my fist nothing worked but it may for you :)
The baby comes when the baby is ready, if it's a health risk then it's best to follow medical advice if it's a health risk for mother and child. It's pretty simple, everyone has their own idea of what induces labour, if something should or if you shouldn't ......blah blah. We don't have the most patient society.....don't worry so much everyone, god/medical, wives tales. tolerate what you can if you can't be patient then inducing unnaturally is enforcing what should be natural! (that is if your not over 42 weeks pregnant) I'm 40 weeks and 4 days, the baby's moving i have a fetal assesement in a few days, i'm not super comfortable but i'm a strong woman (short little one) enjoying this miracle! too many want quick fixes, no pain tolerance makes for a stressful mommy wanting a quick fix.
Ive had a really rough pregnancy and I came here looking for advice and didnt really get what i was looking for. Im sry to say but if i wanted to read up on GOD i would grab a biblle and head to church. I just need some advice as to how to get into labor naturally without hurting my baby but I will try else-where.

Wow!! If god was real... Hevwouldnt take babies, such as my 9 year old brother! Food for thought. I am 39 weeks pregnant, the doctors say I can try castor oil 2-3 table spoons a day, walking, sex, birthing ball, quading, driving on crazy bumps all have not worked. && if this was gods decision he would allow me to have a perfect pregnancy. I can't have more abdominal surgeries seeing as I have had 4 major surgeries the doctors want me to go into labour before 41 weeks. If you go too far over due the baby has a very high chance of bassically over cooking dying. I believe after you hit the beggining of term (37 weeks) trying different kinds of natural inducing is fine... Like someone else was whinning about 'if "god" made those other drugs' then he obviously made other ways to have the baby. Make sure your doctor who knows best says its alright.
And the Super Christ is being mean to the Lady who doesnt believe in god...your one poor creature!
